PARFUMS DE MARLY PERFUME FLIGHT
Someone check on the brand because I got so many ads from them to try samples. I have six!
DELINA LA ROSÉE EDP
Bergamot, Pink Peppercorn, Lychee, Pear
Damascena Rose, Peony
White Musks, Vanilla, Vetiver
"A blend of transparent water flowers and peony with an opening of pear and a subtle base of softwood and white musk. The graceful and pure version of Delina."
Sweet, fruity lychee and pear opening. Rose and peony musk, slightly reminiscent of Chloé, but with a stronger rose note. Slightly peppery. Light musky and warm vanilla base. Of the Delina family, this is my favorite flanker because of the opening. It's fresher and doesn't have an über nauseating florality, though it does smell like the flanker I despise. I can see this being popular with the Asian market because it's subtle and clean. College to early-twenties vibes. Weekend brunch with friends.
DELINA EDP
Bergamot, Lychee, Rhubarb
Damascena Rose, Nutmeg
Cashmeran, Musks, Vetiver
Yup, still not a fan. As expected, it's woodier and muskier than the former perfume. The nutmeg and rhubarb(?) make it smell like a fall candle, which doesn't convey the brand's desired romantic femininity and playfulness. It's supposedly inspired by the 18th-century Parisian court (The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard is part of the mood board), and the brand hits the nail on the head. Spiced pudding, decadent clothes that haven't been washed, or can't be washed [frequently,] so they douse themselves in perfume.
DELINA EXCLUSIF PARFUM
Bergamot, Pear, Lychee
Damascena Rose, Incense
Vanilla, Musks, Moss, Tonka Bean
A bit more bitter and darker than the former two. The rose musk is even richer. The fruit notes smell sweet, stewed, and tangy. I don't smell the incense, which I'm disappointed about. This fragrance reminds me of the rose potpourri my mom used to put around the house, but with warm vanilla notes and a mysterious vibe. No moss notes either. My favorite would be La Rosée, then Exclusif, and finally the OG Delina.
If you want to oscillate between all three throughout the day, La Rosée for the morning, OG Delina to touch up, and Exclusif for the night out. (Three bottles of Parfums de Marly in this economy?) La Rosée is great for Spring/Summer. OG Delina can be worn year-round, but I think Fall/Spring might be the best, since it's not as light or as cozy as its interpretations. It's better for more temperate weather or the colder days during those seasons. Of course, the exclusif is best for Fall/Winter.
VALAYA EDP
Bergamot, Mandarin, White Peach
Orange Blossom, White Flowers
White Musks, Akigalawood, Vanilla, Vetiver
Such a refreshing, bright, and citrusy opening. Mildly sweet with a clean linen/cotton quality. I smell most of the notes except the peach. Perhaps it's because I'm expecting the artificial peach flavor I'm used to. If it's the essence of peach, subtle sweetness with a softness/fuzziness, then they definitely captured that. A subtle floral musk. A great Spring/Summer fragrance. It's an inoffensive fragrance, so it's good for the office. While it's a more feminine-leaning clean scent, the wood and vetiver notes give it a slight masculine edge.
I'm not the biggest fan of cotton or linen-scented fragrances, so it's not my favorite on the skin. However, I caught whiffs of the scent on my sheets/my laptop and was very pleased. Once again, I can see this being popular in Asia with its clean fabric notes.
ATHÉNAÏS
Neroli, Bergamot, Yuzu
Orange Blossom, Jasmine
Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Ambrox
Sweet, citrusy, very fruity. Orange blossom-dominant. Reminds me of scented erasers; there's no rubber note! Cozy cotton quality to this fragrance as well, which I'm attributing to Ambrox. A happy scent. The brand definitely conveys the idea of joie de vivre. I've only tasted yuzu a handful of times and didn't like the flavor, so I don't think I detect yuzu, which I am relieved about. Definitely one of my faves from the brand. Try this instead of Delina if you're interested in exploring the brand and don't like overpowering, vintage-in-a-bad-way floral musks.
ALTHAÏR
Bergamot, Mandarin, Elemi
Orange Blossom, Cinnamon, Cardamom
Bourbon Vanilla, Guaicwood, Praline
Warm, vanilla, tangy, spicy, not too sweet. Another vanilla-dominant fragrance. Reminds me of D&G's Devotion and Lucky Charms (the cereal bits), but not floral and not saccharine. Oh, the guaicwood is coming through. I mainly get the citrus notes and the base notes, excluding praline.
