KUMANO COSME DEVE OLIVE & ARGAN CLEANSING OIL REVIEW

I've decided not to include a picture for this review because there aren't many good pictures online, and I am a terrible photographer. The title with the product name, Kumano Cosme Deve Olive & Argan Cleansing Oil, will help you to find the product without fail.

I purchased this product because it's cheap. It's $6 for 200 ml on Stylevana, and the 450 ml refill is under $10. My usual cleansing oil, Hada Labo Gokujyun Oil Cleansing, costs $12 for 180 ml. Another oil I liked, Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil, is $12 for 240 ml. My goal wasn't to find the cheapest cleansing oil. The cleansing oils mentioned are fine; I want to find something even better.

My preferences:

  • Cleansing oils are preferred over cleansing balms because I do not have to heat the product in my hands to use it.
  • The cleansing oil needs to have some body and thickness because thin ones are too runny and drip everywhere.
  • No scent preferences.
  • Has to deeply cleanse pores.
  • No exfoliating/irritating ingredients because I use actives like BHA, retinal, physical exfoliants, etc. If it has calming and soothing ingredients, that's great, but not something I require.
    • I would also prefer no mineral oil because I have combination skin, but I have never had terrible experiences (extreme purging).
  • Relatively affordable (under $20.)
    • Another reason why I'm not hardline against mineral oil is it keeps products cheap.
    • Under $20 is my general rule for buying any skincare.

This cleansing oil is heavily fragranced. The smell is pleasantly fruity and sweet with a little tartness. I do not mind fragrance in my cosmetics, especially if it's meant to be washed off. I haven't experienced any irritation with this or other fragranced products.

The oil is thick, similar to a half-melted cleansing balm. I use two full pumps, but it doesn't feel like a lot of product once it's massaged into my skin.

I oil cleanse to manage my sebaceous filaments and clogged pores and remove my sunscreen. I occasionally wear makeup, such as mascara, brow pencil, brow wax, and blush.

It's not very good at deep cleansing. I massage the oil long enough for my water to get hot and do not feel the satisfying grits (sebum plugs) coming out. I know they want to come out; I can feel the raised bumps on my nose!

The product emulsifies and becomes milky as advertised, but it loses all its viscosity with water. I want to massage more to get all the cleansing benefits, but it's running down my face. With other first-step cleansers, the emulsified product clings to the face and has some friction that prevents it from going anywhere. Other products are also milkier once emulsified.

This cleansing oil is very easy to wash off. My skin doesn't feel greasy or super stripped.

It removes my waterproof mascara well. (I've tested with two mascaras, Canmake's Quick Lash Curler Long and Judy Doll Iron Mascara.) Obviously, it's not as efficient as specialized mascara removers, such as the one from Heroine Make. Unlike the Speedy Mascara Remover, the Deve cleansing oil stings my eyes.

Cons:

  • Scented and may be irritating to fragrance-sensitive individuals
  • Doesn't give the deepest clean
  • Stings eyes
  • Contains mineral oil
  • Somewhat below average emulsifying

Pros:

The viscosity of this product can be a pro or con; it all comes down to personal preference.
