GUERLAIN SHALIMAR
Shalimar is the first ambery perfume in history.
L'Eau de Parfum Shalimar is a mythic fragrance with bergamot, iris, and vanilla notes; an intense wake with a touch of impertinence, always glowing which embodies skin-caressing sensuality with a hint of the forbidden.
Inspired by the passionate love story between an emperor and an Indian princess, Shalimar, which means "temple of love" in Sanskrit, symbolizes the promise of eternal love forevermore. It is a fragrance of desire.
Voluptuous and sensual, Shalimar Eau de Parfum opens with a breeze of flowers and bergamot, warmed with notes of iris, jasmine, and rose. Vanilla, balsam notes, and tonka beans meanwhile bring power and sensuality to this now-legendary fragrance. Also included are the notes that make up the famous “Guerlinade” olfactory signature, which is recognized for making many of the Guerlain house fragrances so unique.
I always saw people mention this review on Fragrantica, so I liken this perfume, Baccarat Rouge, Delina, Santal 33, etc. as essential reading in perfumery. It's like reading Durkheim, Weber, and Marx for sociology; Aristotle, Locke, and Marx for philosophy and political science.
This is a powdery, citrusy Musc Ravageur... I don't know how else to describe it because it's apt and perfect. Animalic, musky, rubbery/resinous, powdery, sour citrus. Definitely voluptuous, odd, sensual, and oriental.
This is disappointing. I was debating whether to use this when I tried layering. There never was a choice or a need to choose because they are all the same.
