DIPTYQUE PHILOSYKOS EDP
My quest to discover the scent of figs has been unfruitful.
Fig leaves, Fig tree sap, Fig tree woodOLFACTORY ACCIDENTBlack pepper
"The memory of a Greek summer at Mount Pelion where, to get to the sea, there was a natural grove of wild sun-soaked fig trees to cross through. Philosykos is an ode to the entire fig tree: the green freshness of the leaves, the milky flavor of the figs, underpinned by the woody density of the tree."
After being sorely disappointed with BDK's Gris de Charnal and its lack of figs, I had to try Philosykos ASAP.
NOW THIS IS FIG! Mainly get the sweet fruit, but there's also this chemical/medicinal quality that is sap-like. This greeny, though not woody, quality captures the entire fig tree.
Wouldn't describe the perfume as milky or lactonic. There is a creamy richness, just not milky. It's slightly powdery. Definitely accurately represents the entire fig plant, though the fruit is the crown of the perfume. Do not smell the olfactory accident of black pepper.
Diptyque's website doesn't list coconut as a note, though Fragrantica does. Perhaps it's confirmation bias, but I smell something creamy and nutty reminiscent of coconut. If I hadn't seen that, I would have attributed those qualities to Fig. After all, they have an earthy taste and creamy texture.
Clean, pleasant, sweet, and a little green. Linear. The sillage is weak. My mom sniffed me after I applied it to my neck and inner elbow. Her nose was one centimeter away and didn't smell a thing. When she could smell it, she said it was an artificial fig scent.
Longevity is weak too. I wore it to work and couldn't smell it after 3-4 hours. I tested the longevity multiple times at work, and it doesn't last. You can slightly extend the wear with heavier sprays, but that's wasteful. You should need at most one spray per area.
It's a perfect Spring/Summer fragrance. Once again, I understand why Koreans/other people in Asia love this perfume. It pairs beautifully with a white, flowy blouse and light blue jeans. It's clean, simple, and classy. Chic Parisienne/European. The sweetness and fruitiness lean more feminine, IMO, but it's still a unisex fragrance.
It's $220 for 75 ml. They do not sell travel sizes. They offer an EDT discovery set with 7.5 ml samples. Unfortunately, you can't choose the scents you want or select EDPs. The bottle is flat, so it should take up less space in your bag. Regardless, it will take up space, make your bag heavier, and would be devastating if it broke.
For something so expensive, I expect it to have better sillage and longevity. Also, the company should have a travel spray for convenience because it has such weak longevity and sillage.
Please go to the store or purchase a decant first. They give you a sample with your full-size purchase, but that's an expensive trial, and it's a hassle to go to the post office/ship perfumes.
