IMAGINARY AUTHORS CAPE HEARTACHE

In this segment of berating my lack of judgment and just getting whatever/recklessly spending money, I will be shaming Cape Heartache from Imaginary Authors.

Synopsis: Cape Heartache is the lone American contribution to Philip Sava’s wildly popular series of exploration novels. It is based loosely on an expedition he made to the Pacific Northwest as a teenager in 1881 and is generally regarded as the most candid of his works. Revolving around a homestead he built in a coastal grove of old growth trees, the novel documents his romance with a young woman who was a descendent of the Nehalem Indian Tribe. Its themes of leaving the familiar and finding comfort and solace in a new place still resonate today.

Brand recommendation for occasion to wear this: any new adventure including, but not limited to, beach bonfires, first dates, party crashing, or simply barhopping alone on a rainy night. Like a scarf, wear the Cape Heartache scent in the fall and winter and observe how people gravitate to your warmth.

-------------

I remember trying this fragrance the moment it arrived because it's an indie brand I've been dying to try, and I rarely ever try perfumes with strawberry notes. I was sorely disappointed. I'm trying this perfume, again, several months later, and I'm still disappointed.

It definitely smells green and woodsy, but it doesn't remind me of fir. It smells more like vetiver, labdanum, and cedar to me. I'm listing several notes because I'm not sure which one's the culprit. They're always together when I come across them. There is a smoky, incense base.

The strawberry note reminds me of the awful Laneige lip mask dupe from CARE:NEL. It's not a fresh, juicy, delectable strawberry. It's cheap and artificial, reminiscent of a lip gloss I won at Chuck E. Cheese.

The cheap strawberry paired with my least favorite resin and wood notes makes this perfume a nightmare. I'm a little skeptical to try other perfumes from this house. Farewell, Falling Into the Sea.
